Grade 8 Band

Once the last bell rings and the buses leave the parking lot, there is usually staff and students still here working. I stopped by the band room and listened to the Grade 8 Band today--well done  Mrs. Mitchell and students.

It is a beautiful day and time to get some of the glorious sunshine, instead of the morning fog.

Have a good evening.

CSS Students Attend WE DAY in Vancouver

Twenty Chatelech Secondary School students, Ms. Strom and I attended "We Day" at Rogers Arena, in Vancouver, yesterday.  It was an awesome experience.  There were numerous speakers including: Premier Christy Clarke, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, Martin Luther King Jr. III, double amputee Spencer West, Assembly of First Nations Leader Shawn Atleo  and others. Avril Lavigne was the headliner musician.

We Day is part of the Save the Children Foundation, which addresses global issues including clean water and education in third world countries.  Our students will be doing some activities to support some local and global initiatives, accepting the challenge presented by Craig Kieiburger.

It was a pleasure attending this event with these student leaders!

Have a great weekend!

SD 46 Student Trustee & Student Leadership Team

Superintendent, Patrick Bocking, met with the Student Leadership Team at Chatelech Secondary School today.  CSS students, Maya Threuheit and Bryan Ingram, along with representatives from the other SD 46 high schools, make up the SD 46 Student Leadership Team.  Mia was appointed to be this year's SD 46 Student Trustee today.

The Sunshine Coast is only the second school district in BC to include students as trustees.  When I spoke to Mia today she stated, "It's important that students have a voice in the school district and this is a great opportunity for us."

Well done Mia and Brett.
